GENERAL EXHIBITION – MACRO OR CLOSE UP
Apr 8 all-day
Subject and open – Print and projected. Any subject showing aspects that are not normally visible to the naked eye. Consider using complementary colours to emphasise the aspect/s you choose. Make a deliberate choice regarding how much of the subject is in focus – consider using focus stacking if it improves your image.

RALLY – Pinjarra

A morning spent chasing 6 subjects in Pinjarra!

The day will start early morning meeting fellow members at a Pinjarra Cafe where your challenge subjects will be revealed (unless sent out sooner).  A day spent exploring and photographing Pinjarra then awaits, with a potential interruption of lunch at the Pinjarra Hotel.  More details will be emailed out prior to the event.

Workshop – Sunset by the water @ Bicton Bath Reserve

SUNSET @ 5:47 pm

Meeting (any time after 5.30pm) at Bicton Baths, this is an opportunity to undertake some hands on photography.   Sunset, blue hour , long exposure, birds, ICM and silhouettes are just some ideas – the potential is endless.  Learn and share ideas with fellow members.  Bring along your thermos or a tipple for a social gathering when all is done.

LARGE PRINT MONOCHROME EXHIBITION: Your Best Shot
May 13 all-day

Select one of your best images taken in the previous two years,
for a monochrome exhibition. The subject is essentially “open”.
Your image will need interest, so consider an unusual camera
angle and dramatic lighting. Carefully choose the paper and
matting so that the image is displayed to best advantage.

GENERAL EXHIBITION – BLUE HOUR

Subject and open – Print and projected.

Capture an image in the period just before sunrise or just after sunset when sunlight through the atmosphere allows a lot of diffuse blue tones.  Ask yourself what blue does for you psychologically and use this to create an image and a title that expresses your feelings about this particular image.

Athol Wellman Trophy and 60th Birthday Celebrations

Athol Wellman Trophy –5 x 7 Print exhibition  

Athol Wellman was the founder of the Melville Photography Club formed in 1964. This annual award is in his memory

Produce a set of four images in the following categories and must have been photographed in the 12 months prior to the exhibition date.  (that is between 7 July 2023 and 8 July 2024)

PORTRAIT:

May be facial or full figure but should not depict more than two people.

CLOSE-UP/MACRO:  

Photograph should be taken within 0.5 metre range. Full macro equipment (but not microscopic) may be employed to obtain images of up to 3-x magnification.

LANDSCAPE:  

Should depict natural scenery of the terrain and may include enclosed waterways such as lakes, rivers or gorges and the like but not seascapes. No single tree, incidental people or buildings should dominate the picture.

ARCHITECTURE:

One or more buildings or part building, interior or exterior and recognisable ruins are acceptable. No simple door or window etc, separate from its architectural context will be acceptable.

  • THIS IS A PORTFOLIO EVENT MEANING THAT YOU NEED TO SUBMIT 4 IMAGES – ONE FROM EACH CATEGORY
  • IMAGES SHOULD BE PRINTED IN THE 5” X 7” SIZE AND MATTED on a 10”x 8” mat board for each category (i.e you will need four 10”x8” mat boards)

GENERAL EXHIBITION – ABSTRACT

Subject and open – Print and projected. 

Make an image where the original context has been totally removed.  Use colour to allow the image to express your feelings. It can be natural and/or man-made but the viewer should not be able to identify the origin. Consider using close-up, intentional camera movement, long exposure or very fast shutter speed.
